| Injured Deputy Just after midnight on July 25th, 2009 Deputy Greg Voth and another deputy had been dispatched north of Garber to investigate a report of a party on a county road. At one point, Voth had found a fire in the roadway but no one was around. A pursuit began when Voth spotted a pickup in the area and tried to stop the pickup. It was believed the people partying on the roadway were using a scanner to avoid deputies and because on that Voth did not call out his location or that he was in a pursuit. Because of dust raised by the pickup, Voth failed to make a turn, driving off a 30 foot embankment and into Red Rock Creek. Deputies finally were able to get phone contact with him at about 3:20 a.m. And he said he crashed in a creek but didn't know where. He said he thought he had come off a lease road. Using Voth's cell phone, deputies were able to locate the cell phone tower he was closest to and found he was still in the Garber area. (Later in the day Deputy Voth's cell phone was found in his wrecked car and did not have the battery in it. The battery must have came out of the phone after the 3:20 a.m. contact and lost in the dark.) Area emergency responders and law enforcement agencies responded to aid in the search for Voth. Two Oklahoma Highway Patrol aircraft were employed in the search as well as area Troopers. Members of the Sheriff's Department, Enid, Waukomis and Covington Police Departments also assisting in the search. As well as members of the Waukomis, Garber, Covington, Douglas, Breckinridge, Fairmont and Hunter Fire Departments. Voth remained stranded most of the night and into daylight hours with no one knowing his location or what injuries he may have. Voth was found about 8:45 a.m. when a motorist contacted the Sheriff's office reporting the discovery of a sheriff cruiser in the creek. Searchers found Voth and he was taken for treatment at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in the Garber Ambulance. He needed some staples in his head and he's really very sore. He was very fortunate as the photos of the crash area and cruiser below show. Voth's crusier was totaled and OHP troopers found another vehicle wrecked in the same area and believe it was the vehicle Voth was pursuing, the investigation is ongoing. All of us hope Deputy Voth will be doing better soon and want to thank him for the service he does! We would like to thank all the Department's and others that did so much to help!
